AO Tubing End Locator Assembly
The Rebco Tubing End Locator and Sampler is a combination depth-correlation and debris-sampling tool used to identify the lower end of the tubing string and simultaneously collect a representative debris sample from below or adjacent to the tubing shoe in a single wireline run. The tool body carries a spring-loaded trigger finger that is held in the retracted running position by a shear pin as the tool descends through the tubing bore. When the tool exits the bottom of the tubing string into the open casing or wellbore below, the trigger finger springs outward to the deployed horizontal position, expanding beyond the tubing OD. When the wireline operator picks up the string, the deployed finger catches on the lower face of the tubing shoe and provides a positive depth tag, confirming the depth at which the tubing ends. This gives the operator an absolute depth reference for all subsequent operations, correlated against known tubing tally records.
After the depth tag is obtained, a single upward jar blow shears the brass pivot pin retaining the trigger, collapsing the finger and allowing the tool to re-enter the tubing string. The sampling chamber in the lower body retains a small quantity of material from the zone below the tubing end for analysis at the surface. Since the trigger operates on a one-shot shear pin mechanism, extreme care must be taken during the running-in phase to avoid shearing the pin prematurely, particularly when pulling the tool up into the lubricator before running. A Gauge Cutter should always be run prior to the Tubing End Locator to ensure the bore is clear and the tool will reach the tubing end without obstruction.
