The Rebco SO Swabbing Mandrel is a wireline-conveyed tool used to manipulate wellbore fluid within the tubing string in order to induce or assist upward flow from the formation. Swabbing is a fluid lift technique used when a well does not have sufficient reservoir energy to flow naturally to surface on its own, the swabbing mandrel acts as a piston within the tubing bore, and as it is repeatedly raised and lowered on the wireline, it displaces fluid upward column by column until the hydrostatic head in the tubing is reduced enough for the well to begin flowing under its own pressure.

The mandrel body carries elastomeric swab cups that are sized to the specific tubing ID in which the tool will be operated. The cups seal against the tubing wall on the upstroke, lifting the fluid column above the mandrel toward the surface, and collapse inward on the downstroke, allowing the tool to descend through the fluid with minimal resistance. The no-go shoulder on the mandrel body is machined to the drift size of the target tubing weight and grade, preventing the tool from being run through restrictions tighter than the intended bore and ensuring the cups are correctly loaded against the tubing wall throughout the swabbing interval.

It is important to understand that the Rebco SO Swabbing Mandrel is designed for light-duty slickline swabbing operations only. The mandrel does not incorporate an internal fluid dump mechanism, meaning that if the fluid load above the mandrel becomes excessive during a run, there is no automatic relief path to reduce the weight on the wireline. The operator must monitor line weight carefully during every swabbing cycle and must not allow the fluid load above the mandrel to exceed safe operating limits for the wireline and surface equipment in use.
