Applications

The seating nipple may be used as a landing profile for a range of downhole completion and well-intervention devices, including:

• Installing blanking plugs to isolate the wellbore or facilitate pressure testing of the production tubing.

• Positioning subsurface-controlled safety valves, including velocity-operated SSCSVs.

• Installing equalizing check valves within the tubing string.

• Landing circulating blanking plugs for selected circulation and isolation procedures.

• Installing downhole chokes to manage flowing pressure, create a controlled pressure reduction, or help limit the risk of surface-line freezing during gas production.

• Supporting instrument hangers carrying downhole measurement equipment, including pressure and temperature memory gauges.

When positioned above blast joints and used with a Model “A” polished nipple below the blast-joint section, the arrangement can accommodate separation sleeves for addressing localized blast-joint erosion or wear.

• Completion-design flexibility: Multiple nipples can be incorporated into one tubing string where selective locking systems are required, allowing equipment to be positioned at the intended depth.
