    Glossary GU Shear-Up Adapter Tool Assembly GU Shear-Up Adapter Tool Assembly The Rebco GU is the shear-up counterpart to the ROTGS , providing internal fishing-neck engagement through a core/prong assembly but releasing via upward rather than downward jarring. The GU is selected over the ROTGS when well conditions, device positioning, or operational safety considerations make downward jar release undesirable, mirroring the same JUC vs. JDC selection logic applied to external fishing neck tools, but for internal fishing neck devices. The upward jar release of the GU is mechanically advantageous in high-wellbore-pressure environments where the pressure column assists the upward jar force, making release more reliable. It is also the preferred option when equipment below the stuck device could be damaged by a downward jar during a difficult retrieval. How to Order: Specify nominal size and GU designation.     Glossary A Blind Box A Blind Box The Rebco A Blind Box is a solid, hardened alloy steel tool with a flat, hardened face on its lower end, designed to drive obstructions, sand bridges, debris accumulations, collapsed scale, or other foreign matter downward through the tubing string to a point where they no longer interfere with wireline operations. The flat bottom concentrates the full force of every downstroke jar blow directly onto the obstruction, much like a hammer face striking a nail, making the Blind Box the most direct and efficient tool for mechanically displacing material lodged within the tubing bore. Rebco ’s Blind Box serves a second, equally important function: when a wireline becomes parted downhole, and the rope socket cannot be recovered by conventional means, the Blind Box can be used as a cutter bar. Made up below a short length of stem and dropped in free-fall, or run and jarred downward against the remaining wireline, the hardened leading edge severs the line at the rope socket, freeing the tool string below for subsequent fishing operations. It is critical that the Blind Box OD be sized as close as practical to the tubing ID in which it will operate. A tool that is too small will not transfer full impact to a concentrated point, while a tool that exceeds tubing drift will not pass through restrictions above the work zone.     Glossary ROTFWG-1 Plug Choke with Removable Mandrel (TOP No-Go) ROTFWG-1 Plug Choke with Removable Mandrel (TOP No-Go) The Rebco ROTFWG Plug Choke with Removable Mandrel is a positive blank-off device that seals off pressure from both above and below. It is a Top No-Go device designed to be set in BF Landing Nipples and the upper seal bore of the ROTL Sliding Sleeve. Unlike the ROTFSG-2 , which has a selective capability, the ROTFWG is exclusively a Top No-Go device; the No-Go shoulder provides a positive mechanical depth stop that prevents the plug from passing the intended nipple depth below. The plug requires two runs to be set and covers nominal sizes from 2" through 3-1/2", with corresponding seal bore sizes. Construction is from Alloy material, and the same running and pulling tool family as the ROTFSG-2 applies: ROTC-1 (with Locator Ring) or ROTBG for running; Shear Down SB or JDC , and Shear Up ROTRB or JUC , for retrieval; with ROTA Pulling Probes specified by nominal size. A Redress Kit with V-Packing (6 pieces) is available for all sizes, and pulling tool bore-pass restrictions, similar to those of the ROTFSG-2 , must be reviewed before planning retrieval.     Glossary A Impression Block A Impression Block The Rebco A Impression Block is a diagnostic tool used to capture a physical imprint of an unknown obstruction encountered within the tubing string. The tool body houses a cast lead insert secured in place by retention pins passing through the steel housing, both to hold the lead in position during the run and to prevent loss of the lead face if it is partially displaced by contact with the obstruction downhole. The lead surface, being significantly softer than steel, deforms permanently on contact with any harder material it encounters at the bottom of the well, recording the three-dimensional shape, relative size, surface texture, and angular orientation of whatever the tool has touched. This information is critical because many downhole fishing operations involve contacting an obstruction whose exact nature, orientation, and condition are completely unknown at the surface. A well-executed Impression Block run can reveal whether the top of the fish is a clean, flat fishing neck, indicating a standard pulling tool will engage it, or whether it is damaged, crushed, rotated, or positioned at an angle, requiring a specialized recovery tool. It can also identify entirely different obstructions: dropped hand tools, failed shear pin fragments, partially set plugs, or foreign objects that entered the well during a previous operation. To obtain a useful impression, the tool should be run without a knuckle joint immediately above it. Angular movement between the Impression Block and the tubing axis will introduce a false tilt to the imprint, misrepresenting the fish's actual position. The tool is lowered gently onto the obstruction, and a single, controlled downward-jar blow is applied; a single clear impact produces a clean image. Multiple jar blows create overlapping, ambiguous impressions that are difficult to interpret. The lead face must be prepared before each run: smooth and flat, with no pre-existing marks. Rebco supplies lead filler blocks and a pouring ladle to allow field re-pours of the lead face between runs. The melting point of lead (Pb) is 327.5°C / 621.5°F. Always exercise appropriate thermal safety precautions during re-pours. Available in standard threaded connections, ¾"–6⅝" OD. Custom sizes available on special order. Important: Run the Impression Block without a knuckle joint immediately above it. Angular play at that connection will tilt the lead face and produce a false impression. Run one downward jar blow only; additional blows will overlay the image, making it unreadable. Prepare the lead face fresh before every run.     Glossary CENTRALIZERS CENTRALIZERS Centralizers – Types A, B, C, AD, AR, AT (Product Code 118) The Rebco Centralizers are in-string accessories designed to keep the instrument assembly centred within the tubing bore as it travels downhole. In deviated or directional wells, gravity causes the tool string to lie against one side of the tubing bore, which can result in uneven wear on the instrument or instrument carrier, restrictions through tubing upsets, and inaccurate depth readings due to friction. Centralizers with spring bows or blades extend outward from the tool body to contact the tubing wall on multiple sides simultaneously, keeping the assembly centred in the bore throughout the trip in and out of the hole. Six centralizer configurations are available: Types A , B , C , AD , AR , and AT , each with different bow or blade geometry suited to specific well conditions, tubing sizes, and deviation profiles. Like the ROTFMH , it requires two runs to be set, uses the ROTGS Running and Pulling Tool with the ROTM Prong and SB Equalizing Prong tool, and is constructed from Norm Alloy certified for H2S service. The Bottom No-Go orientation means the plug's depth stop is referenced from the lower shoulder of the BR nipple profile, directly complementing the ROTFMH 's Top No-Go stop in the large-bore completion range.     Glossary JB Junk Basket - Valve Catcher JB Junk Basket - Valve Catcher The Rebco Junk Basket is a recovery tool designed to collect and retain small pieces of metallic and non-metallic debris, shear pin fragments, split lock ring segments, broken tool parts, snap ring pieces, gravel pack media, or other small downhole junk that are lying loose in the wellbore below a work zone or on top of a subsurface device. The basket is lowered over the debris accumulation, and a controlled circulation or jar action captures and retains the loose pieces within the basket's internal catch chamber. The tool is equipped with a flow-through body that allows wellbore fluid to pass through while retaining captured solid particles above the catcher mechanism. Junk collected within the basket is retained on retrieval to the surface, allowing it to be identified and analyzed to diagnose the cause of a downhole failure.     Glossary JU (Jay) Unlatching Running Tool JU (Jay) Unlatching Running Tool The Rebco JU Jay Unlatching Running Tool is a specialized accessory running tool used exclusively to deploy pressure and temperature recording instruments into the wellbore and land them on top of a pre-set depth stop, such as a Collar Stop or Slip Stop, without the need for a conventional latch-and-set sequence. Rather than using dogs or collets to mechanically set a subsurface device, the JU operates on the principle of a J-slot mechanism: a J Head, which is ordered separately and attached directly to the recording instrument (or to an instrument carrier such as a Bomb Well), engages into the JU 's internal J -slot profile. Once the instrument assembly lands on the pre-set stop and the weight of the tool string acts downward, the J -slot geometry automatically unlatches the J Head, leaving the instrument and J Head assembly in place downhole while the JU Running Tool is retrieved to surface with the rest of the wireline tool string. This latch-and-leave mechanism is what makes the JU indispensable for BHP survey operations: the recording instrument is set gently onto its stop with no jarring, no shearing, and no risk of disturbing the measurement. At a later date, when the survey is complete, the J Head's external fishing neck is engaged with an appropriate Pulling Tool (Section IV, Product Code 40), and the instrument assembly is retrieved to the surface. Available in nominal tool string sizes 1½" through 4½", with J Heads ordered separately. J Heads are available with either ¾–16 or 15/16–10 Box Thread connections.     Glossary A Stem (Weight Bar) A Stem (Weight Bar) The Rebco A Solid Bar Stem is a solid alloy steel bar that serves as the primary weight source in the wireline tool string. Its mass overcomes three competing forces that prevent the tool string from entering the well: wellhead pressure acting on the wireline's cross-sectional area, stuffing box packing friction, and wellbore fluid drag. The same weight that drives the string downhole is also the source of impact energy when jarring; the greater the stem weight above the jars, the higher the jarring impact force delivered to the downhole tool. As a general rule of thumb, a minimum of 5 feet of 1½" OD stem (approximately 29.2 lbs) is used for well pressures up to 1,000 psi, with approximately 2 additional feet added for each subsequent 1,000 psi. Available in standard lengths of 2 ft, 3 ft, and 5 ft, in standard threaded sucker rod connections from ⅜" to 2½" OD. Smaller ⅜" and ½" OD versions are available for velocity string completions. All Rebco stems are manufactured with machined flats for safer wrenching; never grip the fishing neck.     Glossary HD Hold-Down (No-Blow) Tool Assembly HD Hold-Down (No-Blow) Tool Assembly The Rebco HD Hold-Down Tool, also known in the field as the No-Blow Tool, is an essential safety and operational accessory for BHP surveying in active or flowing wells. Its purpose is straightforward but critical: when a well is producing gas or fluid upward through the tubing during a survey, the upward flow creates a force that acts on the instrument assembly and tries to push it, and the entire wireline tool string back up the tubing. In severe cases, this upward force can blow the instruments and tool string back to the surface uncontrollably, creating a hazardous situation at the wellhead. The HD Hold-Down is placed in the tool string above the instrument assembly, and its spring-loaded dogs expand against the tubing wall to anchor the tool string downward against the upward flow force. A second benefit of the HD is that by anchoring the tool string in place, it reduces the total number of Stems required to keep the instruments at the survey depth, since the hold-down force from the dog grip supplements the weight of the stem, the operator can use less stem weight to achieve the same depth stability. The HD is available in nominal sizes 1½" through 5½", in both Amerada (¾"–16) and Sucker Rod (15/16"–10) pin-box thread connections, and is manufactured from Stainless Steel throughout for corrosion resistance in wellbore fluid environments.
