    Glossary AO & AD Knuckle Joint Assembly AO & AD Knuckle Joint Assembly AO Knuckle Joint (Threaded) The Rebco AO Knuckle Joint is a ball-and-socket articulating connector that provides up to 15° of angular flexibility within the wireline tool string. It is typically placed immediately above the working tool (running tool, pulling tool, or service tool) to allow that tool to align freely with the tubing bore rather than being held rigid by the tool string above. This angular compliance is particularly important in deviated or corkscrew tubing conditions, where a rigid tool string will bind against the tubing wall, preventing tools from reaching their target, reducing jarring effectiveness, or making it impossible to latch or unlatch downhole controls. When a significant deviation is present, additional knuckle joints can be placed between the stem and jars, and at every connection in the string as required. It is important to avoid placing excessive knuckle joints in the string; too many knuckle joints can redirect downward jarring force sideways into the tubing wall rather than downhole, reducing jar-down effectiveness. Every knuckle joint should have a fishing neck on the lower body to assist recovery in the event the ball-and socket connection separates downhole. Available in standard threaded connections from ⅜"–2½" OD, with optional double fishing neck. Critical: A knuckle joint is not a substitute for a swivel joint. A swivel provides rotational freedom under load with only 1°–5° of lateral movement. A knuckle joint provides 15° of angular movement but cannot rotate under load. If a knuckle joint is used where a swivel is needed and the wire parts, the rope socket fishing neck can fall over against the tubing wall at an angle, making recovery with a pulling tool extremely difficult or impossible. AD Knuckle Joint (RQLD) The Rebco AD Knuckle Joint is the RQLD double-shoulder quick-lock version of the Rebco AO , combining the same 15° ball and-socket angular flexibility with Rebco 's heavy-duty Quick Lock System connection.     Glossary ROTAO Mechanical Tubing Perforator Assembly ROTAO Mechanical Tubing Perforator Assembly The Rebco Mechanical Tubing Perforator is a mechanical wireline-deployed tool designed to create flow ports through the wall of the production tubing at a specific depth without the use of explosive or shaped-charge perforating systems. The perforator mechanically drives a hardened punch through the tubing wall using downward jarring force, creating a controlled hole of precise diameter. This technique is used when communication between the tubing bore and the tubing-casing annulus is required, for example, to establish flow paths in a portion of the tubing that is no longer contributing to production, to create injection entry points for chemical treatment, or to establish pressure equalization ports in an isolated zone. The tool string must include adequate stem weight and a robust jar system to generate sufficient punch-through force, which varies with tubing wall thickness, grade, and OD. Multiple perforations can be placed at different depths in a single trip by running the tool to each target depth and reactivating. Tubing Perforator Stops (see below) are used in conjunction with the Tubing Perforator to control and limit the depth placement of each perforation.     Glossary JO Unlatching Tool Assembly with J Head JO Unlatching Tool Assembly with J Head The Rebco JO Unlatching Tool with J Head is the instrument deployment system used to lower a recording instrument or Bomb Well assembly to depth and leave it on top of a pre-set depth stop, such as a Collar Stop, Slip Stop, or DO Collar Lock, without the need for any separate latching, setting, or jarring action at the instrument itself. The J Head is attached directly to the bottom of the instrument or Bomb Well. The JO Running Tool engages the J Head through a J-slot mechanism. As the assembly lands on the pre-set stop and the weight of the tool string acts downward, the J-slot geometry automatically unlatches the J Head, releasing the JO Running Tool and leaving the instrument assembly at depth while the wireline tool string is retrieved to the surface. When the survey is complete, and the instrument must be retrieved, the J Head's external fishing neck is engaged with the appropriate Pulling Tool (Section IV, Product Code 40), and the full instrument assembly is pulled back to the surface. The J Head is available with either a ¾"–16 Box Thread (Amerada) or 15/16"–10 Box Thread (Sucker Rod) lower connection to match the instrument thread, and J Heads with 15/16"–10 connections are available on request. The JO Running Tool is selected by nominal size (2" covers 2⅜" through 3½" tubing). See Section III, Page III-25 for running tool sizing. How to Order: Assembly number 4107202000 (¾"-16 Box Thread) or 4107202001 for 2⅜"-3½" tubing size. Specify box thread connection type.     Glossary Equalizing Sub-Assemblies - Accessories Equalizing Sub-Assemblies - Accessories The accessories in Section XV are the individual components that combine with the equalizing and bottom sub-assemblies to complete each assembly configuration. The A Cage and B Cage are the outer housing components that contain the valve, bean, or ball and seat mechanism in each respective sub-assembly; the A Cage is used in circulating applications, and the B Cage is used in choke and bean applications. The API Cross Over Mandrel is the connecting component that adapts between the Lock Mandrel body thread and the Seal Unit, allowing different lock mandrel and nipple combinations to be used with the same circulating or choke bottom assemblies. The AO Bean and BT Bean are the calibrated flow restriction inserts used inside the A Cage and B Cage, respectively, and are available in 1/64" orifice increments, giving the operator precise control over flow restriction without replacing the entire subassembly. The K Equalizing Shear Plug is a safety device that incorporates a shear element, allowing the equalizing pathway to be opened by applying a specific overpull force on the wireline, providing a backup equalization method if the primary prong-actuated equalization fails or is not accessible.     Glossary BG Running Tool BG Running Tool The Rebco BG Running Tool is a locating and running tool purpose-built for positioning sub-surface accessories equipped with ROTS-1 or ROTS-2 Lock Sub-Assemblies into their corresponding selective seal profiles within the wellbore. Its primary function is not to set the device by jarring, but to accurately locate a specific seal profile among several within a multi-nipple completion string, a critical distinction in selective completions, where the wrong profile must not be accidentally engaged. The BG operates by engaging the collet or locating feature of the Lock Sub-Assembly against the correct profile recess as the tool string is lowered. Once the proper profile is located and the accessory is seated, the running tool is released and retrieved, leaving the sub-surface device locked in place. This makes the BG an essential tool in gas lift, chemical injection, and other multi-zone selective applications where precise depth control and profile selectivity are paramount.     Glossary A Stem (Weight Bar) A Stem (Weight Bar) The Rebco A Solid Bar Stem is a solid alloy steel bar that serves as the primary weight source in the wireline tool string. Its mass overcomes three competing forces that prevent the tool string from entering the well: wellhead pressure acting on the wireline's cross-sectional area, stuffing box packing friction, and wellbore fluid drag. The same weight that drives the string downhole is also the source of impact energy when jarring; the greater the stem weight above the jars, the higher the jarring impact force delivered to the downhole tool. As a general rule of thumb, a minimum of 5 feet of 1½" OD stem (approximately 29.2 lbs) is used for well pressures up to 1,000 psi, with approximately 2 additional feet added for each subsequent 1,000 psi. Available in standard lengths of 2 ft, 3 ft, and 5 ft, in standard threaded sucker rod connections from ⅜" to 2½" OD. Smaller ⅜" and ½" OD versions are available for velocity string completions. All Rebco stems are manufactured with machined flats for safer wrenching; never grip the fishing neck.
